New York-based composer Aaron Severini was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts and began studying piano, composition, and dance at age eight.  Mr. Severini is a recipient of the 2010 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Award for his composition 10, and has received multiple ASCAP Plus Awards.  Prior to composing music full-time, Mr. Severini danced professionally with New York City Ballet for 11 years, having the opportunity to study their vast musical repertoire and work alongside a large and diverse group of talented composers, musicians and dancers.


Mr. Severini’s concert works have been performed at The National Arts Club, The Ailey Citigroup Theater, and Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and David H. Koch Theater, NYC.  He has had the pleasure of collaborating with many choreographers including Adam Hendrickson, Benjamin Millepied, and Christopher Wheeldon.


Compositions for dance include Flit of Fury / The Monarch and 10Flit of Fury / The Monarch was commissioned by New York City Ballet Master in Chief, Peter Martins, and choreographed by Adam Hendrickson. The ballet had its world premiere with New York City Ballet at the David H. Koch Theater, Lincoln Center, NYC, with pianists Steven Beck and Stephen Gosling reviews10 was commissioned by Pacific Northwest Ballet and choreographed by Kiyon Gaines.  The ballet had its world premiere at McCaw Hall, Seattle, WA.


Film scoring credits include, the PBS documentary A Ballet in Sneakers: Jerome Robbins and Opus Jazz (dir. Matt Wolf and Anna Farrell), Lessons from a Tailor (dir. Galen Summer), and the feature film, Make Yourself at Home (dir. by Soopum Sohn).


Mr. Severini is excited to be attending The Juilliard School where he received the Stephen E. Somers Scholarship and studies classical composition with Christopher Rouse.
